A teacher, Omotayo Adanlawo, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl, in Ondo State. ‎

Justice Samuel Bola of the Ondo State High Court passed the sentence on Adanlawo after the court convicted him for the rape of the minor. ‎

‎Adanlawo committed the offence on August 24, 2018.

He reportedly ‎went to the victim’s house at Iju, in Akure North Local Government Area, when she was alone and raped her, after which he threatened to kill her if she reveals the incident to anyone.‎

It was gathered that the victim’s father is a pastor, and Adanlawo used to attend his church. ‎

The little girl started complaining of stomach ache after the incident and it was discovered that she has been raped when she was taken to the hospital.

She eventually revealed that Adanlawo had raped her. ‎

‎‎Upon his arrest, ‎Adanlawo told the police that the girl asked him to lay on her after asking for 50 naira and chinchin.

‎However,‎ during the trial he changed his statement, claiming that he was at his home at the time of the incident.‎‎

He also claimed that he was not medically fit to have had sexual intercourse with the girl, as, according to him, he was suffering from hernia.

‎But, in his judgement, Justice Bola ‎held that the prosecution was able to prove there was penetration in the rape allegation against Adanlawo.

He also said the defendant gave no medical report to prove his alleged condition, and also failed to provide evidence to show that he was in his house on the day of the incident.

The court therefore sentenced Adanlawo to life imprisonment.
