‎A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, has reportedly resigned from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos.

Mailafia ‎was hitherto a directing staff at NIPSS, a Federal Government think-tank institution.

Mailafia’s lawyer, ‎Yakubu Bawa, disclosed on Tuesday that he tendered his resignation last week.

Bawa also said the management of NIPSS has accepted Mailafia’s resignation.

Mailafia was recently invited for questioning by the Department of State Services after he alleged, in a radio interview, that a governor of one of the Northern states was a commander of the Boko Haram terrorists.

The DSS, which is still investigating Mailafia, said the allegation was part of a plot by some influential Nigerians to destabilise the country.

The Nigeria Police Force has also extended an invitation to Mailafia but his legal team is challenging the development in court. ‎

Mailafia, who was the p‎residential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 general elections, has been a vocal critic of the government and is known to be highly outspoken on critical national issues.

The radio station which Mailafia granted the interview was fined the sum of N5 million by the Federal Government, through the National Broadcasting Commission, for ‘hate speech’.  ‎
