President Bola Tinubu has met with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress as part of efforts to resolve the controversy surrounding the party’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, followed a separate engagement between the President and other senior party stakeholders on Wednesday.
The consultations are focused on addressing concerns over the composition of the 223-member campaign council unveiled by the APC on August 23.
The list had attracted criticism over the inclusion of some party figures facing corruption-related allegations, while questions were also raised about the alleged exclusion of key stakeholders from the process of compiling the council.
The APC governors arrived at the Presidential Villa shortly before 4pm on Thursday, following the National Economic Council meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Sources close to the discussions said the campaign council list had been reviewed, although the extent of the proposed changes remained unclear.
The party’s earlier list was also reportedly removed from its official X account, fuelling speculation that a revised version could soon be released, subject to the President’s approval.
The controversy has placed renewed focus on the structure of the ruling party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Under the initial arrangement, President Tinubu was named Chairman of the council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as Vice Chairmen I and II.
Senator Abdulaziz Yari was designated Director-General, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was named Secretary.
The expanded structure also created directorates covering finance, education, manufacturing and MSMEs, extractive industries, labour relations, faith-based mobilisation, digital operations, grassroots engagement and other areas.
Amid the controversy, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said the list remained valid but could be adjusted where necessary.
Dare explained that the campaign structure was still being completed, with several subcommittees yet to be constituted.
He stressed that any changes would amount to adjustments rather than a wholesale review of the campaign council.
The APC is also expected to place greater emphasis on social intervention programmes as part of its strategy to connect with voters and address concerns over economic hardship ahead of the 2027 elections.
