Gombe To Construct 27 Markets For N8.4bn

 

Gombe State government, yesterday said all plans had been put in place to construct 27 markets across the state at the cost of N8.4billion.

This is the fallout of the executive council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

The development was disclosed at a joint press briefing by the state’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Julius Isaiah and his Commerce and Tourism counterpart, Nasiru Aliyu after the Exco meeting.

Isaiah told journalists that the council also approved the declaration of a state of emergency in water supply, sanitation and hygiene in line with federal government’s directives.

He said the state of emergency in Gombe, “will happen soon.”

On his part, Aliyu said the council approved N370.3million for the consultancy, designing, bill of quantity and monitoring of the 27 markets.

He explained that 10 of the markets will be model markets to be constructed new, while the remaining 17 will undergo reconstruction.

The commerce and tourism commissioner, added that in taking the decision to construct 27 markets, all stakeholders were involved.

On the issues of compensation, he told journalists that if it is discovered that the payment will be too high, other locations to sites the markets will be searched for.
