In what has been considered in some quarters as a smart move to retain his seat for a second term, a member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Paschal Okolie has returned to his original party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Okolie who represents Orlu State Constituency, had joined some of his colleagues to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) shortly after Senator Hope Uzodinma emerged as the governor of the state.
The lawmaker conveyed his decision to return to his original party in a letter he signed and addressed it to the Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, Chiji Collins and was read at the floor of the House.
He however did not give reasons for such move coming few months after he defected to the ruling party in the state.
Sources however told Daily Tracker that the lawmaker’s decision was fueled by insinuations that some other APC leader in his constituency had concluded plans to possibly upstage him in the party.
Therefore, in a bid to forestall a situation where he would lose out in the power equation, he decided to quickly retrace his steps early enough.
A close associate of the lawmaker who refused to have his name in print said “My friend simply does not want to leave anything to chance. It was better to return to his party where he used to be the constituency leader than to remain in APC where they still treat him like a stranger”.
