Inmates escape as hoodlums break into Benin Prison

There has been a jail break at Benin prison along Sapele road aided by suspected hoodlums hiding under the guise of EndSARS protest.

The alleged hoodlums had besieged the prison building chanting for the release of the prisoners when the inmates took advantage of the situation to break through the roof and escape  after scaling the barbed wire fence.

Earlier,  a police station at Idogbo on the Upper Sokponba axis of Benin city was set ablaze by alleged thugs within the area.

Meanwhile, all roads in Benin City were blocked since the early hours of this morning by hoodlums while they have also set bonfires on major highways such as the Benin – Agbor road, Benin – Auchi road.

Security operatives have not commented on efforts to curtail the violence or if there were attempts to go after the escaped prisoners.

In the meantime, organizers of the #EndSARS protest have used different social media platforms to appeal to Benin Youths to stay safe at home as the protest have been hijacked by suspected hoodlums.
