Court Remands Two Over Social Media Publication Against Abdulsalami Abubakar

A Federal High Court Sitting in Minna Niger state capital has remanded two persons in correctional center for publishing injurious statement on social media against former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Alhaji Abubakar.
The police prosecutor Jude Akaeze presented four count charges against the defendants, Abdulkareem Ajibola and Anas Umar over their malicious publication which contravened Section 24 Sub – Section (1B) Ciber crime law.
He prayed for adjournment to enable him present witnesses to prove allegations against the defendants.
The defence counsel, Abdulkareem Abubakar moved for bail arguing that they have already stayed for one month in the correctional center and pleaded not guilty of the four count charges.
Justice Emeka Nwite however urged the defence counsel to do the needful in applying for bail and adjourned to 26th July, 2021 to commence trial while they should be remanded in correctional center.
The accused persons were said to have published a story which went viral on social media using their galaxy smartphone that Former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar was the owner and supplier of arms and other logistics to bandits perpetuating their acts in Niger state.
