Edo state Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu has hailed the people of the state for standing against Godfathers and affirming that only the people control democracy and not a few individuals.
Comrade Shaibu while speaking with journalists after INEC declared Governor Godwin Obaseki winner of the 2020 governorship elections explained that the victory showed that only God gives power to those he wants.
Shaibu while reacting to the victory especially with the intrigues that preceded the election described it as a victory from God, and a way of God sending a message to all politicians to always do the right thing to gain power, saying “God is not a God of abandoned projects and has only given power to those who he choose.
“Only God decides who wins and who he gives power based on the projects he has for the state and God started a new project in Edo 4 years ago and no man can truncat that project no matter the gang up”.
The Edo state deputy Governor who praised Edo people for not selling their conscience during the election noted that “Edo people remained resolute despite the intimidation and inducement.
Despite the billions, they lost their wards, some of them brought billions from Lagos and Kano, some emptied Imo state treasury and don’t mind owing salaries just to induce voters but Edo people said no.
“The truth is if not for the inducement, they wouldn’t even get the number of votes they got. So Edo people have spoken and this victory is victory for Edo it is also victory for Lagos, because it is now left for the people of Lagos to follow the Edo template and end the reign of one man deciding the course of the whole state. The people must be liberated and Edo has started it.”
On his Part, Speaker Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Francis Okiye described the victory of Governor Obaseki as a breakaway from some individuals dictating the course of an entire state.
“Today Edo people have shown that they can not shave ur head without your permission. Edo has spoken against forces of retrogression, they have decided to vote against one person deciding their future and they have liberated themselves.
“This should also be a motivation to other states. They must rise up and stand against Godfathers and agents of retrogression. The entire country must be liberated and people allowed to vote their conscience.”
