Gunmen kill police sergeant, kidnap four foreigners in Cross River
The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a police sergeant, Ifere Samson on Tuesday night when gunmen attacked the premises of Danatrite Construction Company in Oban, Akamkpa council of the state.
Some yet-to-be identified gunmen had stormed the company’s premises killing the piolice sergeant and in the process reportedly abducted four foreign nationals whose names were given as kan Jinxi, Hujinchang, Jiang Jijun, and Cheng Qing.
The police sergeant was the security guard on duty when the gunmen stormed the company.
Another unconfirmed report has it that another set of gunmen equally kidnapped a yet-to-be identified woman in Calabar South same night and security men are said to be on their trail.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the state, DSP Irene Ugbo described the incident as unfortunate, noting that the police had swung into action to apprehend those behind the dastardly act.
She said the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state had visited the scene of the incident to assess the situation, assuring that the police would make its findings public after preliminary investigations.
