Use TETFUND to assist private varsities,  Don tells FG

The Dean Faculty of Law, Delta State University Abraka, Prof. Kingsley Edu has called on the federal government to use the interventionist agency Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to assist private universities in Nigeria.

He made the call while delivering a lecture titled “charting the course for the progress in Nigeria University education at the 14th Matriculation Ceremony of the Renaissance University Ugbawka. According to him, both the public and private universities produce students for the Nigeria labour force and as such there should be no dichotomy.

Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Thaddeus Eze thanked the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for graciously extending the period of Admission to Nigerian universities up to June, 2021.

He said that admission into Renaissance would continue after matriculation as a make up of lost grounds to the exigency of Covid-19.

He further congratulated the matriculating students saying that choosing to study in Renaissance is one of the wisest choices they ever made noting that the school is strong in building the academic, moral and character formation of its students.

He also said that plans are on to create new departments and faculties so as to made affordable and qualitative education to more deserving students .

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Pro- Chancellor of the University, Mr Jude Ishienyi, charged the students to imbibe the enduring virtues of discipline, good conduct, and self-reliance and admonished them to shun truancy, absenteeism, examination misconduct, and cultism.

In his goodwill message, the Chancellor of Renaissance University, the Most Rev’d Dr Emmanuel Chukwuma expressed delight that a flagship private university in the Southeast that had been under his watch since 2005 have grown in leaps and bounds producing high quality manpower that is always in high demand in the country. He thanked the teaching and non teaching staff for their avowed commitment, dedication to duty and sacrifice.
Highlights of the compelling event include the taking of the oath of allegiance and good behaviour by over a hundred first year students, display and sale of products produced by the entrepreneurial Department of the institution as well as cultural dances performed by the students.
