The Edo State command of the Nigeria Police on Friday reassured residents of the state that preparations are in top gear to ensure a violence-free September 19, Gubernatorial election in the state.

This is coming as the two dominant political parties in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) continued to mobilize their supporters ahead of the off-season election.

Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Kokumo told newsmen after he presented an Armoured Personnel Carrier, (APC) to Governor Godwin Obaseki at the Government House, Benin City.

CP Kokumo said the command was being proactive and has identified violence prone areas, adding that a show of force would soon begin to send clear signals to lawbreakers.

“You see our men here and the armoured personnel carrier, we are simply demonstrating our readiness for the coming election in the state. This is intended for us to embark on a show of force to send a message across to those who might be nursing hope of fomenting crises, that Edo state is not a place where violence of any form will be tolerated.”

CP Kokumo also assured that the command has both speed and gunboats in its marine base ready to secure the waterways.

“We have in place a number of boats, we have both armoured gun boats and speed boats to use in policing our waterways.”
