Just in: Northen Govs kick against disbandment of SAR

Even as nationwide protest against the scrapped Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the Northern States Governors’ Forum on Thursday expressed support for the special unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

The governors described the disbandment of the unit as the same as throwing the baby away with the bathwater.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the chairman of the forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong said the dissolved SARS had contributed immensely in the fight against insecurity in the Northern region.

He said the forum was not against the unit in any way.

While noting that the president had already approved the scrapping of the police unit, Lalong said northern states do not believe in throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

He, however, admitted that the unit needed reforms.
