Kano Court Jails man for Sodomy

A 30-year old man, Umar
Abdulrahman was on Tuesday jailed for two years by a Magistrates’ Court in Kano State for sodomising three boys.

Abdulrahman, who resides at Layin Yankifi Maidile Quarters in Kano metropolis, was convicted after he pleaded guilty on a one count charge of unnatural offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Chief Magistrate Muhammad Idris, sentenced the Abdulrahman to 24 months in correctional facility without option of fine.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Badamasi Gawuna, had earlier told the court that one Umar Tanko and Ahmed Bello, all of Mundadu Quarters, Kano, jointly reported the case at Kumbotso Police Division Kano, on April 23, 2020.

Gawuna said that sometime in April 2020, the convict deceived and lured the complainant’s three boys aged between 11 and 13-years into his room situated at Mundadu Quarters Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

“In the process the convict had canal knowledge of the victims through their anus one after the other and gave them N50 each,’ he said.

The offence, according to him, contravened the provisions of section 284 of the penal code.

The Magistrate, therefore, sentenced the convict to 24 months in correctional facility without option of fine.

Meanwhile, the Chief Magistrate had ordered the remand of a 24-year-old student, Surajo Mohammad, in a correctional facility for stabbing one Gambo Umar, 35, to death with a bottle.

The accused, who resides at Kofar Ruwa Quarters Kano, is standing trial on a count charge of culpable homicide.

He ordered the prosecutor to forward the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution, for legal advice.

Idris adjourned the case until Aug.31, 2020, for further mention.

The prosecutor, Badamasi Gawuna, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 7, 2020 at about 4:00 p.m at Kofar Ruwa Quarters in Kano.

According to him, the accused had a misunderstanding with the 35-year-old victim, in the process stabbed him with a bottle on his neck as a result of which he sustained serious injuries.

“The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital where he died while receiving treatment,” he said.

The accused, however, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Gawuna said the offence contravened section 221 of the penal code.
